Jennifer La Pierre
Thirty years of painting has empowered me with a body of techniques and becoming the multidisciplinary artist I am today ; response to color and lyrical nature of each piece, layering and revealing detailed vignettes, reduction in editing, manipulating texture and form, negative and positive reaction, and line intention. Rooted in a graphic design background with a love of typography and calligraphy, I love the expression of the line, be it gestural, tentative, structural or definitive.Deconstructing the traditional figure, transitional and contemporary form, I am enamored with the boundaries of cohesion and tension, challenging how far a piece can be reduced and still be able to tell a story. The landscape series was created in reflection of our land healing from our recent fires with regrowth, a new compassion and memory.
‘Sobre Las Olas’, Over the waves on the cliffs of Half Moon Bay is where my great grandfather rebuilt his landmark restaurant after being demolished in a storm in 1931. Jack London, Luther Burbank and the Levi’s all dined and danced on the decks. Post war, by hand and wheel barrow, each plank was moved up the cliffs. This is where I spent the summers; exploring tide pools, abalone and crab feasts, sea breeze and sand. I share this glimpse of what inspires my seascapes; moody, broody, stormy, calming, who I am, of the sea. This is an amazing concurrent thread of my family and in my life, celebrating resilience.
I create fine art, abstracts on canvas and panel; Plaster and cracked linen, landscape, figurative, seascape and coastal abstracts, custom wall covering, painted maps, murals, painted tapestries, gilded panels, and equestrian paintings and photography. Specializing in large scale canvasses, custom and commission work. Installations available for hospital and commercial projects.
